Story Marketing

Once upon a time, there was buying and selling. People's focus was on making a profit, in fact, it still is. Sales rep were and still are business owners because they are the engine of the small business. They deal with the relationships needed for the small business to survive.  These businesses will become larger and the business owners are now known as CEO's, Managers and Top Executives just to name a few. But in essence they are still sales reps because they have to sell the company's vision to everyone from Janitors to the Board of Directors and from entry level employee to shareholders.

Sales is really the exchange of perceived value for a profit while marketing is building profitable relationships. So a marketer is also the sales rep for the small business. The Marketer is building the profitable relationships in order for the company to survive. Now what is most amusing is that during this process of building profitable relationships, the marketer/sales rep/ceo/manager is creating stories along the way and by telling them, his/her brand becomes stronger and powerful because value is being created for everyone.

Everyone loves a good story, and they usually stick around in our memories longer than "facts and non fictions". Its easier to remember a story than to remember "buy this today, and like our page on facebook". This is because stories usually have some amount of value or lessons embedded in it and we can identify with that. So think about this, if we can identify with stories an your brand keep telling stories about profitable relationships being built, imagine how powerful and profitable your business will eventually become.

Do a test for your self, look at social media pages with a lot of likes or followers, they are usually telling stories one way or the other. Two perfect examples are Instagram's Official account on Instagram and the Red Bull's Official account on Instagram. Notice how they have a lot of followers even though they aren't particularly branding every single post with their logo's?  And Hey, by the way,  Red Bull doesn't actually give you wings, its just a story!!!! And because of those Red Bull gives you wing stories, their social media pages are living Happily Ever After.

The End

Why is hope marketing failing you?

In the age where factories dominate and capitalism is the order of the day, many business owners use hope marketing to attract clients. There was no system or process to attract new clients, they just go with the flow since they have little to no serious competition. Demand was high or at least consistent for great products or service. With little to no choice on the client's end, marketers didn't really need to go above and beyond to develop a system for their marketing efforts. The information age created a shift which gave clients stronger bargaining power. Of course, there are always exceptions to this but the mass of the bargaining power became stronger when potential clients have the option to search around the internet for competitors products and buy the one that best suits their taste. This information age made it harder for marketers to compete with competitors with only hope marketing even their your product or service was really good. Why? because it goes...
